Tarzan - "Tarzan the Terrible (Part I)"

This is the first of a two part Tarzan story with art by Russ Manning. To enjoy Manning is to revel in the glory and beauty of the human form, even when his sleek anatomies are given blue fur and tails. Manning’s Lord of the Jungle is a study in exquisite grace and power.

This is from Tarzan No. 166, April 1967. The story is adapted from the Edgar Rice Burroughs tale by Gaylord DeBois. Cover is painted by George Wilson.

Hey..."Waz-doin Jato" ( last panel pg5 ) This was a crazy story all over the map, cluttered with odd characters, and unpredictable plot twists.....( if I didn't know better I would think I wrote it ) but the art... mamma mia.... she's-a magnifico! Great stuff Santa Banta... Happy Holdays :)

Oh ya, one more thing....

It's Christmas you see, but I don't want a bat,
....No, I don't want a glove nor even a ball.
You may think I'm cuckoo and outta my hat,
I don't even want toy robots that can walk down the hall.

I don't want a set of steel girder erectors...
I just want a scan of my favorite DOC SPEKTOR

Mitchell: That was one brisk plot, I grant you. That's what comes from trying to pack a rather busy action novel from Edgar Rice Burroughs into 40 pages or so of comic. I love it. Stay tuned for part II! As to Manning's art - Mamma Mia puts it just fine. -- Mykal

Wow! What a cover, to start off with!
Then inside its beautiful Manning art, monkey men with prehensile tails, saber-toothed tigers, multi-colored dinosaurs, and a tag-team tiger kill/bundolo?
All I can say is
"KREE-GAH!!"

Oh, yeah...one minor note -
page one -
"A Pithecanthro-what-us??!!"
When the heck did Tarzan start talking like a Jeopardy contestant?

Mitchell: I have some Dr. Spector on tap! Love that Jesse Santos stuff.

Keith: Yeah, Tarzan was a very strong title for Gold Key, particularily with Manning at the helm.

Apocolyte: Kree Gah back at ya!

And Merry Christmas, guys.

I thought that I had better mention that I'm looking forward to the 2nd part of this adventure before the new year began.

Not that I'm rushing you or anything!

Hey, Chuck: I'm rushing myself to get to the rest of this one! Manning is so cool! -- Mykal
